Notice it hereby given that I will ell at public Ruction, to the higheat bidder, lor cash, on Tueaday, the 11th ' dap. of November, at the achool farm yards, the following described cattle, belonging to the U. 8., to wit : 4 cows, 2 heifers, 13 steers and 11 calves. JAMES E. K1KK, Supt. While the Jouiinal reportor was at the fair Thursday he caught a few remarks from different parties, whose names he did not know, but as they aro only expressions of the way people were enjoying them elves on that day the names will not make this article sound any heavier. As we were taking a ruhher at the fruit and vegetable exhibit, we caught a few remarks like the fol lowing. "Why. this is equal to the State Fair, 'didn,t think Crook county could ruiso such fruit un this. My I just look at thosu pota toes, 'uint they whoppers, and , those apples, I would like to eat one of 'em; they ure as good as any I ever saw. Are those apples there Hood River apples? why, Crook county apples look better than they do, just look at these, In faet the Crook county apples did show up better than the samples Judd I'almer brought from Hood River, and wo got soapplejhuiigry looking at them that we had to leave. The next tiling we run against, was the horse raees. The first one was between the Itiggs, I'ollard anil JohHii horses, The I'ollard horse was the favorite ir. the (Hitting. When they nt last got started, Pollard's horse and Joslin's broke even ,with lligg's horse fifty feet in the rear. Then one ton Id hear the following expressions as the horses changed positions. See that black horse run, he will win sure, but look at Jliggs horse gain, just look at him, he is going to win, $5 on Biggs horse, here they come, Pollard's horse wins by a length, better luck next time old man. The next race was the relay between the Yancey string of three horses and the Critn string. The talent was sure they had a sure thing and were offering odds that the Yancey string would win! They overlooked the riders. The horses got off together the first time and kept well together all the way round, the Cram horse coming in first, but in the change of horses the Crnm horse got off first, while the other rider; well, ho got lost in the change, and when he did get started, the other horse was three hundred yards ahead. This made the Cram men feel good and they nere encouraging him to hurry tip. By the time the last round was mailt" the Cram horse was a quar ter of a mile ill the lead, and the tiilenl were broke. We hail just limu to give-tile rest of ihu fair a passing glance. One could hear expressions of suprise and wonde r that Crook county had so many resources. It is an eye opener to be sure and it will be of great ben for the county to have a meeting like this ever fall. While the pools were being sold on the race Friday a young sport made a bid on the first horse and gut it. When bids were called for the others he bought them also. After the race we asked him if he won and he said: "You bet I did." This sounds as if this might be one ofthe sports from Mitchell. School Apportionment. PltlXKVlU.li. OCT. Mil, 1(102.
